Founded in 1970, the Game Rangers’ Association of Africa (gameranger.org) is a registered non-profit organisation which is the oldest, largest, and most representative ranger association in Africa. GRAA is a member of the International Ranger Federation (IRF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with over 1800 members registered in over 35 countries. GRAA has partnered with SATIB Insurance Brokers to create a unique product called RangerProtect for rangers across Africa.
SATIB Insurance Brokers are Africa’s leading niche market brokers looking after the needs of the Tourism, Wildlife, and Conservation community since 1990. SATIB understands the vital role rangers play in protecting wilderness areas that form the very foundation of our tourism economy and sustainable environments.
In 2018 and in 2020 Tashinga Initiative Trust as a member of Game Rangers Association of Africa and in collaboration with SATIB SA has been able to support 295 Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Rangers across the protected areas of Lower Zambezi Valley with the RangerProtect scheme. Each Ranger has been provided with a GRAA Badge and GRAA Membership and SATIB Insurance card by Tashinga Initiative visiting Dande, Chewore, Sapi, Mana, Hurungwe, and Charara-Kariba (see www.tashinga.org/where-we-work) as well a GRAA notebook, the fundamental tool for all Rangers!
Tashinga Initiative, supports SATIB and GRAA’s hopes to restore rangers’ confidence and morale, providing them with the necessary protection to ensure they and their families are looked after, should something happen to them whilst performing their work.
