Teams spanning the African continent united to compete in a 21km half-marathon carrying their 22kg backpack plus patrol equipment, building camaraderie, and raising awareness of the hardship currently faced by those in their profession. We have been so excited about the keen participation from ZimParks Rangers from Charara, Mana Pools, Chewore North, and Chewore South Protected Areas, despite the necessary intensity of regular patrol and antipoaching duties! Thank you so much to the Areas Managers and Officers in charge of these unique wildlife protected areas of the Lower Zambezi Valley for making this happen. Also sincere thanks to Kariba Animal Welfare Foundation Trust www.kawft.org for its fantastic support to the Charara Team.
The teams results out of 41 eligible Pan African Teams are absolutely stunning after just 7 weeks of training!
10th place: CHEWORE NORTH: 2hrs 47m
25th place: MANA POOLS-ZAVARU: 3hrs 16m
27th place: CHARARA: 3hrs 21m
29th place: CHEWORE SOUTH: 3hrs 25m
Supported by Alyssa Conley (Rio 2016 Olympian, SA’s 100m, 200m sprinter and 7’s rugby player) a professional training schedule was drawn up, thanks also to Michelle Nativel, and Neil Nativel for Tashinga Initiative.
Thank you for YOUR fantastic support for the ZimParks Ranger Teams, for your contributions to the #tusk #justgiving fundraising pages. And for our Wildlife Ranger Challenge Teams we are enormously proud of you!
