In a collaboration between Tusk Trust (www.tusk.org), Tashinga Initiative Trust, and ZimParks (www.zimparks.org) four x 4-man Ranger patrol units will be taking part in a 21km half-marathon AFRICA WIDE virtual RANGER CHALLENGE 2020 on 3rd October!
Teams spanning the African continent will unite to compete in a half marathon race carrying their typical 25kg backpack and equipment, building camaraderie, and raising awareness of the hardship currently faced by those in their profession. We are so excited about the keen participation from ZimParks Rangers from Charara, Mana Pools, Chewore North, and Chewore South Protected Areas, despite the necessary intensity of patrol duties! Thank you so much to the Areas Managers and Officer in charge of these wonderful wildlife protected areas of the Lower Zambezi Valley for making this happen. And in Charara, we are very excited to have Kariba Animal Welfare Foundation Trust (www.kawft.org) joining us to oversee the Charara RANGER CHALLENGE www.tusk.org/events/wildlife-ranger-challenge/
Leading up to marathon day, a professional training schedule has been designed, thanks to Michelle Nativel, Alyssa Conley (Rio 2016 Olympian, SA’s 100m, 200m sprinter and 7’s rugby player) and Neil Nativel for Tashinga Initiative and we will be getting into the field to provide support as well capture some of our dedicated Ranger Teams during their training sessions.
Wildlife Ranger challenge 2020: Alyssa Conley, 2016 Olympics Rio champion, and SA sprinter who designed the training programme with Team Nativel for our 4 teams from Charara, Mana, Chewore North and Chewore South has this to say to ZimParks Ranger Challenge Teams:
