Food Security: Food Hampers For Rangers

Food hampers for Rangers working in the Lower Zambezi Valley:  Charara, Hurungwe, Mana, Sapi, Chewore, Dande and Doma.

Starting 2022 with actions surrounding the well-being of our Rangers is being made possible as a result of Wildlife Ranger Challenge of 2021 and it’s the way we like to bring in the New Year! Deliveries to Rangers based at remote field stations in protected areas and the World Heritage Site across Mid-Zambezi Region will commence shortly. Last year more than 25+ tons of pre-packed food hampers comprising a box of dry foodstuffs +10kg mealie meal (total of 33kg each) were delivered to 100+ Rangers in the Lower Zambezi Valley for 12 months during 2020-2021.

Our intervention of January 2022 will bring about a significant level of relief to Rangers and their families who during this current rainy season experience considerable challenges in travelling to reach food sources at least 4-6 hours on largely inaccessible roads.

The linkages between Ranger well-being and foot patrol efficacy are highlighted.

We ask and trust that caring donors will proactively respond to this call for ongoing funding.
